About the Ponydex
The Ponydex is a site that has come about as a (belated) birthday present to my fiance, Bunny-San. As her pony herd grew, she needed a way to keep track of them, preferably with some form of picture attached. A simple, local database would have sufficed, but I knew it could be much better. Why not make it an on-line database, that she can access from anywhere and even let other people see her collection? If I was going to that length, why not make it possible for others to use it as well?
Bunny-San is an active member on the MLP Arena and so I asked her to see what others would think about this idea - and it was met with very positive feedback. In fact, it was thanks to those on the forums at the MLP Arena that the Ponydex has gained it's name and motivated me to work hard on making sure that this site would meet everyone's expectations!
The site was coded entirely by hand, from scratch. It uses XHTML (version 1.0), PHP, mySQL, and a litle bit of Javascript to help out. I have tried to do what I can to use as little Javascript as possible, to keep the site as friendly as possible to visitors, but some areas (such as the registration page!) just required it. In addition, I've taken a few extra steps to try and keep the amount of information required to use the site to a minimum, and being someone who personally hates sites that sell private information, please rest assured that any information on this site will not be sold to any other company, ever.
While being built, the site was hosted on 000webhost.com, a very awesome and, best of all, free webhosting site that offers a huge variety of features. In making the site official, the site has been upgraded with them and should (hopefully, knock on wood!) never see downtime!
